The distinction can be drawn in the following way. Life coaching works on the assumption that the client already has a goal in mind yet is unsure how to reach that goal or feels as though she lacks the willpower or mental resources to do so. Life coaching seeks to better equip us to make something of ourselves.
By contrast, philosophical counseling is concerned–at least in part–with re-examining the very ends we have set for ourselves. Is this the right end–right full stop or right for me–or should I set my course according to some other end? I’m lost, and I can’t see my way about. Now may be the right time for me to try to sort things out.
