Non-existence Of Objects
Step 1: In this experiment, start by taking any physical object like a pencil. Hold it up and look at it. Call this “the sight” or “the seen object.” Note that you are aware of the sight of this pencil.
Contemplate: Does being aware of this pencil prove that the pencil exists in its own right?
Conclusion: Being aware of this object does not prove that this object exists in its own right. Come to this conclusion on your own.
Discovery
Step 2: Contemplate: Then what is revealed when there is the sight, e.g., of this pencil?
Answer: What being aware, e.g., of the sight of the pencil reveals is that I am aware. The sight of the pencil does not prove that I am aware. Instead, it reveals what is self-evident: namely, that I am aware.
Explore: While looking at the pencil, notice that the sight, as it were, is always pointing back to the Openness that you always already are.
Nature Of Awareness
Step 3: Explore: Open the eyes and see that the sight is revealing You, Openness. Close the eyes and understand that You are Openness. Open and close; open and close.
Contemplate: Is it clear that I am aware whether the sight of the pencil is present or not?
Go deeply, experientially into this matter until it’s completely clear that I am aware when there is the experience of seeing and when there is no such experience.
Establishment
Step 4: Explore: Let the pencil go and simply let any experience rise and fall. Note that every experience–every sight, sound, touch, texture, or smell; every thought or feeling; every sensation–reveals Me, Awareness. Note gently and only occasionally that I, Awareness, never leave Myself regardless of whether or not any objective experience is rising or falling.
Understand: Through such prakriyas, slowly come to establish Yourself in your true home, in your primary residence. That is, establish Yourself in and as Yourself.
