Dear A.,
The Pith
Jnana yoga could be said to be a deconstruction of our conceptual model.
1. Since consciousness knows itself by being Itself, it is self-evident. Accordingly, it requires no “proof,” no “rational proof.”
3. The only reason it seems to be veiled is due to superimposition.
4. Through deep understanding, we first see through superimposition.
5. Through deeper understanding, we second see that there wasn’t any superimposition in reality.
Some Sticking Points
1. Progress/regress
2. Sitting deeply/rest of the day
3. Being a doer or actor
4. Being one who must make great efforts
We can explore all of these.
Which Assumptions Do The Above Hang On?
Notably, space, time, and movement.

How To Explore These
Ask yourself at any time during the day:
- Where am I? HERE!
- Do I ever reach not-here? NO!
- When am I? NOW!
- Do I ever experience not-now? NO!
- Do I ever move from here to not-here? NO!
So, I, consciousness, am not in space. I’m not in time. I don’t move.
Three Passes
1. The first pass reveals direct experience: for instance, there’s just seeing here, now in consciousness. The same holds for hearing, touching, smelling, tasting, sensing, and feeling.
2. The second pass shows “how the sausage is made”: Oh, a thought says, “I drove from my house to work today. I passed from here to there. I moved through space and in time.” Ah, that’s how superimposition works!
3. The third pass shows: “Oh, there’s no such thing as superimposition because all thoughts are, in fact, arising to and in the Self.”
See clearly that 1-3 are true.
With kindness,
Andrew
