What’s The Relationship Between Jnana, Bhakti, And Karma Yoga?

Sometimes the question is asked, “How does the path of knowledge (jnana yoga) relate to the paths of love (bhakti yoga) and action (karma yoga)?

One simple way of answering the question–but, surely, not the only way–is to first ask what your spiritual temperament predominantly is. If you’re reading this post, then it’s likely a philosophical temperament. In which case, yours is the path of knowledge. Walk this path.

Note what Ramana Maharshi says, however. To really dive deep into the knowledge of the Self is, in fact, to see that this knowledge is none other than surrender. To know in a nondual sense just is to love in a nondual key. To “empty out the sense of a separate self” is to expand the sense of self to include all, who are nothing but the Self. To be empty is to be full.

Little by little, what’s revealed is that one, not being the doer, naturally “acts” selflessly for the sake of the welfare of others who, it is clear, are the many faces of the Self.

Know who you truly are. Love Being. And see this Love in action.
