Exploring The Body Identification

The “I am the body identity” is not only the most intriguing but also, at least for some, the stickiest.

Thankfully, the direct path teaching offers may very curious ways of dissolving that identification.

Since, in direct experience, “the body” is simply a sensation, we look directly at the latter. A few lines of inquiry:

  • Do you really find, in sensation, a border between “the body” and “the world”?
  • Are thoughts really occurring “on the inside of the body”?
  • Is hearing really occurring “beyond the skin boundary”?
  • How large is this sensation in direct experience? Does it have a size?
  • Does this sensation have a shape?
  • Does “the body” ever experience “pain,” or isn’t this really just, say, an intense, or warm, or cool sensation appearing in vast, open awareness?
